Chinoise Collection

The Chinoise Collections was sparked by a gift from Pamela's Great Grandmother, who brought back pieces of "Forbidden Stitch" from pre-revolution China. The Forbidden Stitch was given its name post revolution, because the stitches were so small that the eyes of the artists were thought to be compromised - and the embroidery was done, in the main, for the Emperor and the aristocracy, and had no place in the People's Republic. The Chinese now embroider extensively - and do so beautifully, including the incredible pieces which can be seen to be perfect images on both front and back. An embroidery of a tiger brought back from a recent trip was accomplished in silk threads finer than hair, and beautiful on both sides - And took 6 months of work to complete. These are blank on the inside.
