http://www.whitetigerstudio.com/images/uploads/news_uploads/11Duke_posterFinal.jpgDonated poster design for Duke Children’s Hospital Horse Show

The Annual Duke Childrens Hospital Benefit Horse Show "Jump for the Children" is again scheduled for November this year. In Graphite Gallery, you'll see the poster I designed, including the drawing of the horse and rider. (Don't you love the braids and ribbons?)

The show is November 8-13 at the Gov Hunt Horse Complex, adjacent to the Fair Grounds here in Raleigh.  Over 600 horses will show;  the kids can decorate a stick horse and join the race with Mr. Taco on Saturday evening - the same evening as the Grand Prix ($30,000), the highlight of the show.  And the show, except for a small fee Saturday evening, is free!  I’ll be there in my booth, showing horse and dog images, plus some of my new landscape and African mammal paintings.  I hope to see you there!

Donations to the NCState Vet School

Seven of my images of dogs - including 3 original oils and an original Gouache - are now hanging in the new Companion Animal Hospital at the NCState Vet School. They have been so helpful to me and other pet owners over the years that it seemed natural to donate the images. All in all they were given over 100 pieces - and the collection is quite spectacular!! Well worth going over and walking around. The hospital sits next to the old building, and is outfitted as well as any hospital for humans - plus being a good looking building! At the dedication, I was told the instructions to reach the admin offices include "turn left at the Red Dogs" - 2 of my oils of Jack Russells on red fields. Fun!!

Classes

I have a wonderful list of ideas for classes, but have not established a firm schedule - preferring to work with groups of friends, and teaching the subjects they want to focus on.
Got any ideas? Call! I will be teaching in Newland, NC (south of Boone) sometime in July; at The Fork Stables, Norwood, NC in August and in Southern Pines June 26 and 27.

Porcelain featured in Cary Magazine!

My porcelain featured in Cary Magazine!
An envelope arrived in the mail recently - and contained a wonderful surprise!

Bailey’s Fine Jewelry used my “WingSong”, designed for Raynaud Porcelain, Limoges France - in a story “China to Cherish” in the Cary Magazine.
The bird and butterfly images painted for this design are all endangered beauties - and part of my royalties go, via the Jane Goodall Institute, to make micro loans to women in the Gombi area, near Goodall’s beloved Chimpanzees.  The women use the loans to start business’ from which to make a living, without harvesting more trees, and helping to maintain the Chimp habitat.

One on One Classes

If you would like a small class or one on one classes, I would love to hold them.

I have recently been invited to hold a weekend class in a home in a South Carolina, for a wonderful group of 8 women. Great fun and wonderful work come from these workshops!  If you and your friends cannot come to Raleigh or Blowing Rock, this is a fun alternative.

Needlepoint!

One of my favorite things is needlepoint. All the women in my family were/are proficient in needlepoint and embroidery - and my great grandmother (who lived to be 102) showed me how to make lace and to tat. My Christmas tree is covered in needlepointed decorations. I try to add several each year, and love "reading" the history of the ornaments as the tree is decorated.
Recently, I was invited to join a meeting of a needlepoint group - where I taught them how to transfer their own designs to the canvas. The example I used for the class was the initial "P" from the baroque collection. I'll put that image in the gallery soon.
If you have a group who have a common interest which revolves around the creative, let me know! I'd enjoy putting together a class for you.

K-9 Deputies

You'll find a new group of images in the Gallery. I've been donating painting of the K-9's in the Sheriff's office. Wake county is lucky to have this group of dogs and their handlers, and as I finish another portrait, I'll add it to the Gallery. These beautiful animals are well (and humanely) trained to find lost people; track the bad guys and aid in their arrests; find cocaine, meth and other drugs, plus explosives. The dogs are often at as much risk or more than the deputies. So far I have met 2 Bloodhounds, plus a number of labs, shepherd dogs and Malanois. Each of the dogs has a dedicated trainer/handler deputy, and lives with its handler and his family. All of those I have met are friendly, energetic and playful, when appropriate, and very focused when need be. I had at least 2 people break into my house and studio last summer. So I am doubly pleased to be able to say thank you to the Sheriff and his team in this way. And if you are interested, a deputy and his dogs are frequently available to meet and greet. Just give them a call!
